My Bucharest is the one that remained impregnated in my mind from my childhood. The old buildings in the Jewish quarter, crossed by Calea Dudești and its Stone Cross, the spectacular Hala Traian, from where my grandmother used to buy me donuts, the roses and the jasmine in my yard on Parfumului Street, the manor house turned music school…

Some of these still exist today, others were lost, suffocated by too much pragmatic modernism… too many cars, too loud the bustle, too many bright ads, too little time to walk and rediscover that beautiful and elegant Bucharest.

Bucureștiul meu este cel care mi-a rămas impregnat în minte în copilărie. Clădirile vechi din cartierul evreiesc, tăiat de Calea Dudești și a sa Cruce de Piatră, pitoreasca Hală Traian de unde bunica îmi cumpăra gogoși, trandafirii și iasomia din curtea mea de pe strada Parfumului, casa boierească transformată în școală de muzică…

Unele mai există și azi, altele s-au pierdut sufocate de prea mult modernism pragmatic… prea multe mașini, prea mare zarvă, prea multe reclame luminoase, prea puțin timp ca să ne plimbăm și să redescoperim acel București frumos și elegant.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

I have invited 37 artists to take part in this project, and to choose a place in Bucharest to be photographed and to write a text about their relationship with the city. This idea would have remained only an idea without the support of ARCUB. Artists involved: Mircea Albulescu, Coca Bloos, Dragoș Buhagiar, Ștefan Câlția, Mihai Constantin, Corvin Cristian, Alexandru Darie, Ruxandra Donose, Vivi Drăgan Vasile, Tudor Giurgiu, Ilinca Goia, Adrian Ilfoveanu, Sorin Ilfoveanu, Vlad Ivanov, Doina Levintza, Ovidiu Lipan Țăndărică, Marius Manole, Irina Marinescu, Medeea Marinescu, Răzvan Mazilu, Horațiu Mălăele, Dan C. Mihăilescu, Horia-Roman Patapievici, Oana Pellea, Florin Piersic jr., Răzvan Popovici, Marian Râlea, Victor Rebengiuc, Analia Sellis, Răzvan Suma, Tiberiu Soare, Dorin Ștefan, Roman Tolici, Andi Vasluianu, Gheorghe Visu, Dorel Vișan and Aurel Vlad.
